Rather Be Cycling has selected the Pedal to Petra in 2013 as a fundraising challenge for the MS Society.
The Inspiration behind Pedal to Petra came about after a good friend, Duncan Booth, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2010. This was devastating for Duncan, his wife Yvonne, and 3 little boys. However, since his diagnosis Duncan and his family and friends have tirelessly raised over £50,000 for MS Research! Duncan’s challenges have included swimming across 10 lakes in 10 hours and sculling up and down Derwent water for 10 hours throughout the night! Duncan and Yvonne are always thinking of adventurous ways to include others in their challenges and share in their hope of one day finding a cure.
So aside from being an exceptional journey you can combine each of your pedal strokes to fundraise for a worthy charity.
The MS Society is the UK’s largest charity for people affected by multiple sclerosis, about 85,000 people in the UK. MS is the most common disabling neurological disorder affecting young adults, often characterised by distressing symptons such as muscle spasms, fatigue, depression and pain. The MS Society supports everyone whose life is touched by MS through services including respite care, a freephone MS helpline 0808 800 8000, grants for home adaptations and mobility aids, education and training, specialist MS nurses and a wide range of information. It also funds research programmes with the hope of finding more effective treatments for MS and ultimately the cure.
